Whenever I need to create a dramatic and moody portrait, Fovitec’s stripbox (SP30-001-1462) has become my best friend. The softbox is very versatile by nature and will produce a narrow band of light, which is very well suited for creating a contrasting effect. You’ll notice the short light spread from left to right. This will give you a very narrow wrap around in your lighting and shadows, as well as giving you a completely different tool to work with when you angle the light differently.
The stripbox is unique because the long part of the box gives you a very soft light while the narrow portion gives you a harder light. The quality of this light is where you will communicate the most emotion. Hard light communicates strength and intimidation, while soft light gives the appearance of inclusivity and friendliness. Pair this with the option to angle your light differently and you can create a myriad of options!
